WCPC JOINT Jr/Sr High Sunday School Leader Rotation

CLASSES will be held in the Youth Room, in the Christian Education Building, Second Floor, Room 206

 
The first class on 9-18 will have a special guest presenter: 
The Rev. Ted Foote, co-author of Being Presbyterian in the Bible Belt.
We need 4 Chaperones that day. We also need volunteers to bring light breakfast snacks, help set up and help clean up. Rev. Foote will lead the lesson and discussions.

Books are available in the Youth Room but due to the number of leaders we will have, PDF’s are available here and at the Link above to download to your tablets or to print and study at home.
 
To volunteer with our kids, you must have completed volunteer paperwork. Download the form below and turn in to Susan Duncan ASAP or at least two weeks prior to the class you are scheduled to teach.

Classes start Sun, Sept 18th @ 9:45am

A rotating team of 2-3 adult leaders per class are needed each Sunday this fall. 

Curriculum: Being Presbyterian in the Bible Belt. A Theological Guide for Youth, Parents, and Other Confused Presbyterians

  • Sun, Sept. 11 – Kick-Off Sunday! Help us engage parents, Youth, Tweens, Children and volunteers as we provide information for our classes programming and activities for the 2016-17 new school year! We will have tables set up for Kick-Off Sunday in the Fellowship Hall during Sunday School, and after worship and need help with set up and clean up. Join the Youth team, Children/Tweens Teams and lend a hand helping parents fill out annual paperwork, handing out handy schedules, and talking with them about Wednesday Night Youth Group and other 18 and younger “all-kids” programming, Wednesday Night WAM and Family Supper, Mission, and volunteer opportunities. We need your help Kick Off Sunday! Lend a hand setting up, running the tables, and cleaning up! Fellowship Hall
  • Sun, Sept. 18  Special Guest The Rev. Ted Foote. Youth Room 9:45am. 4 Chaperones needed. Volunteers also needed to bring light breakfast treats for youth, leaders and adults guests plus set up and clean up. There are breakfasts treats left over from the Beach Retreat in the Youth Freezer down in the kitchen and fridge.
  • Sun, Sept 25– Intro & Are You Saved, or Are You Presbyterian? Questions around salvation, conversion, and Grace… not works! What does it really mean to be a Presbyterian?
  • Sun, Oct. 2– Is the Bible the Literal Word of God, or Just a Long, Boring Book? Tackling the question: Do you believe in the Bible and the statement Jesus was not a literalist are fun thoughts for this day. The authors look at the Word vs. words and Why and How we read the Bible!
  • Sun, Oct. 9– Are You Going to Heaven, or to Tulsa? This chapter covers those BIG topics like… Are you sure you are going to heaven, do Presbyterians even believe in Hell, and is it about Guilt or Gratitude? 
  • Sun, Oct. 16–  Is Jesus “Lord,” or Just a Good Guy? And what about all this Do you have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ stuff? Is it really all about personal salvation or, for us, is it about community celebration?
  • Sun, Oct. 23 – Are Only 144,000 Saved?  Do Presbyterian believe in Predestination? The short answer is that Presbyterian don’t believe in Predestination; they believe in God. The longer answer is more complex, though, because Presbyterians believe God always knows more than we can know… Predestination, Salvation, and Election.
  • Sun, Oct. 30 Joint Brunch Outing Meet in Youth Room CE 206 & walk over as a group The last Sunday of each month chaperones will take the Sunday School Class over to the Brooklyn Cafe for a Brunch Fellowship outing for fellowship and class discussions on what has been learned in their individual Sunday School classes that month, or for group building discussions. No lessons will be taught these days. Please remind your classes to bring money for breakfast prior to class. Meet in the Youth Room and walk over as a group.
  • Sun, Nov. 6– When Will the World End, or did it End in the 1960’s? Do Presbyterians believe in the Book of Revelations, are we Apocalyptic or full of Shalom, and why we hope! 
  • Sun, Nov. 13 – NO CLASS PYCC Youth Rally – The Presbytery of New Covenant Youth Rally happens Sunday, Nov. 13th at Christ Church Bellaire in Houston from 11am-2pm.There will be food, fun, mission and worship. It is a WCPC tradition to take our Jr & Sr High down to worship with fellow Presbyterian Youth! We need 1 adult to 4/5 kids ratio to help chaperone and drive to the Rally!  Sign up now and have a BLAST on Nov. 13th. If you have a large vehicle and are willing to drive, please sign up. If you haven’t filled out volunteer paperwork in the last two years, please see a youth leader to fill out a form so that you can help chaperone for this fun event!
  • Sun, Nov. 20– Do Presbyterians Have Spirit, or do they just Drink Them? This chapter covers all things Spirit; from speaking in tongues, to being the frozen chosen, to being spirit filled and why, from the mountain tops down to the valleys low, let’s discuss what Presbyterians believe about the Spirit.
  • Sun, Nov. 27Joint Brunch Outing Meet in Youth Room CE 206 & walk over as a group The last Sunday of each month chaperones will take the Sunday School Class over to the Brooklyn Cafe for a Brunch Fellowship outing for fellowship and class discussions on what has been learned in their individual Sunday School classes that month, or for group building discussions.   • Sun, Dec. 4Advent Festival & Alternative MarketFellowship Hall Help out selling Sea Farer’s Kits and WCPC 2016-17 t-shirts with our Jr and Sr High during the Sunday School hour in the Fellowship Hall during the 2016 Advent Festival and the Alternative Market! Help set up, help the kids sell, and help clean up after 2nd service!
  • Sun, Dec. 11– Why Don’t You Repent in Dust and Ashes? As Presbyterians, if asked if we are sinners, we answer, “Absolutely I am: and so is every other person.” But given our understanding of sin and grace, there’s a choice. Will we be self-righteous or self-accepting? This chapter addresses sin, confession, repentance, forgiveness and new life! 
  • Sun, Dec. 18 – Who’s In Charge? End of Semester “Wrap Up PARTY” Bring some breakfast treats & goodies for the class and discuss what they have learned this semester. Make it a Wrap up Sunday School Party and as many leaders as are available who have helped out this year, are invited to celebrate with the class! Congrats on another Fall Sunday School in the Books! Final Discussion with All: This chapter covers the Reformed Tradition, and the three basic building blocks used in the Presbyterian Church’s decision-making process.Diversity, relationships, and Calling; decently and in order, as a professing church.
