Committees
Going Further!
After you have had an opportunity to minister to others in the church, locally or globally, a committee might be the next step for you. The Committees at WCPC are an opportunity to take your servitude a step further. They help facilitate, plan and coordinate all the ministry opportunities through WCPC. The bible teaches us the harvest is plenty but, the workers few. Below is a listing of the current committees and when they meet.
Building and Grounds
Moderator: (Vacant)
Session Members: (Vacant)
The Building and Grounds committee is responsible for the church campus, to include all building maintenance and upkeep, as well as the administrative details of running the church office, maintaining the church's insurance and maintenance agreements, etc.
You can get involved with this committee if you have an interest in any of these areas, or you might wish to work on one of their subgroups, such as the Mow 'n Blow crew, who meet weekly on Saturday mornings to cut, trim, and edge our church grounds, using the church's equipment.
This committee meets the second Tuesday of each month at 7:30pm in the Parlor.
Christian Enrichment
Moderator: Kathy Gage
The Christian Enrichment Committee is responsible for all areas of enrichment of our spirituality. To this end we are responsible for all children's and adult's Sunday School classes and weekly Bible studies. We also provide acolyte training, prepare for our annual Vacation Bible School, oversee the Boy Scout and Girl Scout affiliations that our church has, and provide Jesus Jam. In addition, we often make available worship classes for the children, present Bible stories through Godly Play sessions, and provide social activities periodically for the older elementary and middle school students. Watch Life of the Church for meeting times and days. Everyone is welcome to join us.

This committee meets on the first or last Sunday of each month at 11:00 am in CE room 202.
Contacts and Connections
Moderator: Steve Flynn
“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
—Matthew 28:19-20 (NIV)
With God’s help and guidance, the Contacts and Connections Committee focuses on reaching out through a dual approach of outreach and hospitality to our friends and neighbors, visitors seeking a church home, current members and those who do not know Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior to share the good news of the love of God in Christ.
To do this, the Contacts and Connections Committee coordinates special events that bring people together to get to know each other and develop a relationship with a living God.
Provides training opportunities for evangelism outreach to current members so that they can be encouraged and motivated to proclaim their faith at every reasonable opportunity in daily life and to remember that the strongest evangelism is the life led by the individual.
Prepares advertising and coordinates other communications tools to reach out to seekers, making them aware of our presence and desire to know them and their needs.
Fosters a seeker and visitor-friendly environment by extending intentional hospitality to all, regardless of age, race, gender, economic status, abilities, or sexual orientation, both at the church and in our communities. Our goal is that all may better know the love extended to them through God’s grace and the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
The committee meetings are announced in the Life of the Church each month.

Greeters
Moderator: (Vacant)
The Woodlands Community Presbyterian Church is a friendly, welcoming family, and we want to extend that welcome to everyone who plans a visit with us, whether they are a one-time visitor or become a member. Our Sunday morning greeters are often the first impression a person has of our church home, and may even be the first time that person associates that smile, that warm handshake, with the love of Christianity.
Greeters should accurately represent our community. Wear what you wear to church (especially your name tag): it isn’t the clothes that make us believers. All are welcome to greet: Couples, singles, traditional and non-traditional families. If you have children bring them along. Children love to greet, shake hands, and hold doors, and the visitor realizes right off that there are children here, actively involved in the church. And your children can invite visiting children to their Sunday School as well.
As we grow, we have several points of entrance that we like to staff. The only talent that is needed is a cheery and warm welcome. We also have greeters the Information Counter and offer assistance to visitors with name tags, Sunday School class locations, Fellowship Hour, and, of course, restroom locations.
Celebrations: We celebrate our greeters in February with a “Thank You Brunch.”
Communications
Moderator: (Vacant)
Communications at The Woodlands Community Presbyterian Church include, but are not limited to, our weekly “Life of the Church,” included in Sunday morning’s bulletin; our monthly newsletter, The Good News Herald; our website (www.wcpc-tx.org); and newspaper, radio and television advertising.
If you have an interest or experience in any of these areas, we can use your assistance. There are proofreading and editing opportunities with the newsletter, design and maintenance of the website, graphics development for newspaper ads, developing and nurturing newspaper contacts, sign preparation, etc.
Evangelism Outreach
While all of the other areas are a way of reaching out to those around us—making contacts and connections—we also plan for intentional events in which we evangelize: going into the world and
“sharing the good news of the sovereign love of God and calling people to repentance, to personal faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, to active membership in the church, and to obedient service in the world” —from the Definition of Evangelism adopted by the 202nd General Assembly (1990)
First, please understand that evangelism is not about increasing the size of WCPC. It is about spreading the Good News and bringing more of the un-churched to Jesus Christ. And the Good News is that God is “in our history, in our present, and will be in our future, calling us, loving us even in our unfaithfulness” (from The Good News Story, Office of Presbyterian Evangelism, PCUSA).
And so we go in the world to set this example to those around us. We do this through loving, caring events, where we can show the love that God has for us, through our actions with those with whom we have encounters. These are more personal actions. Handing someone a bottle of water as they run or walk on a pathway. Helping them to their car with an umbrella in a sudden rainstorm. Coordinating a musical or comedic act to be presented in a neighborhood location with hotdogs will feed the spirit and the body. Offering someone a cool drink on a hot day, or a hot drink on a cool day. These are events where we can personally extend a subtle invitation to those who might be seeking God, Jesus, a church, and letting them know that we are there.
Currently, our evangelism outreach has included floats in the 4th of July parade, the Thanksgiving Community Dinner on Thanksgiving day, Christmas caroling, the Nathan Clark George concert at Northshore park, as well as CDs and booklets made available to the congregation to share the Good News with their neighbors.
Mission Outreach

The Mission Outreach Team at WCPC works every day to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ in a broken and hurting world. That proclamation may take the form of a kind word, a cup of clean water, a helping hand or speaking out for a just cause. We help connect people who want to help with people in need. This means that we stay actively engaged in our own community, the Houston area, other parts of the country and distant parts of the world.
Mission is best done in partnership. On those occasions when we engage in true mutuality in mission, we find that the activity is less like one person giving something to another and more like an exchange of gifts, in which both partners find worth in their ability to give. We believe that every single child of God is precious, worthy of our time and has something to give to others.
If you visit the Serving Locally and Serving Globally pages of this web site, you will find lists of our Mission Partners and opportunities for you to get involved. We hope you will find one that interests you, and that you will join our witness to the world in that particular way. You may also want to join the Mission Outreach Team and help us nurture these partnerships.
We are called out into the world to Bind Up Wounds, Build Community, Share and Care, Provide Hospitality and Promote Justice. Why do we go? We go, because God’s love knows no boundaries.
Youth Ministries Committee
Moderator: Nancy Hathaway
The Youth Ministries Committee is committed to providing quality programming and activities for the youth of WCPC. We provide Sunday morning Sunday school classes, weekly Bible studies, and weekly fellowship opportunities for all youth in grades 7–12.
During 2006, our inaugural year as a committee, our outstanding accomplishments included:
Changing the structure of our confirmation class to a 4-month program from a 9-month program
Hosting a parenting class
In 2007, we look forward to continuing our mission of providing quality programs to our youth while working to develop their spiritual maturity. Our goals for 2007 include:
Recruitment of youth to re-start the youth leadership team. This is a group of youth working with adults to develop Sunday evening fellowship activities, games and devotionals. Working with the youth elder, we have begun to recruit junior and senior high students to be a part of this ministry and empower them with the tools they need to lead their peers.
Have an active role in the non-traditional worship service working with the WCPC staff who will plan that service. We hope that the youth will embrace this change and will look for opportunities to be involved in leading this worship.
We are sending two youth to the PC(USA) Triennium. We are also committed to making the youth aware of summer 2007 opportunities at Mo-Ranch, Cho-Yeh, and mission trips.
We will work on team building among our youth with fundraisers and mission projects.
Continue to diligently find adults who want to be a part of youth ministry as Sunday school teachers, Bible study leaders, or youth group advisors for both junior and senior high students.
If you are interested in working for or with our youth, please attend our monthly meeting or contact the moderator, Regina Garner, for information. There are many opportunities to help out that do not require a weekly commitment.
This committee meets on the first Monday of each month at 7:00pm in the Senior High Youth Room.
