May 30, 2008
Dear family and friends of WCPC:
There’s a lot happening this Sunday and
throughout the summer.
First, it marks the beginning of our 9:45 am
service for June. It will be similar to the 8:30
traditional service, minus the Children’s
Message and Anthem. It will conclude at 10:30.
Both the 8:30 traditional service and the 11
contemporary service remain the same. This is
yet one more option for you to consider as you
plan your Sundays. The 9:45 service will be
evaluated by your Session after the June trial
to determine whether it’s a worship option for
the fall. If you know of someone in our
community whose schedule on a Sunday is such
that this new service might minister to them,
please let them know.
Second, this Sunday you’ll have the
opportunity at the 8:30 and the 11 services to
hear from several of our high school seniors who
will share their reflections. It’s an exciting
time in their lives and in the lives of their
families.
Third, we will commission at the 11 service
our Youth Mission Team composed of 16 Junior and
Senior Highs, and their five adult sponsors.
They will be leaving next Saturday for Santa Fe
, New Mexico . Their main project will be
working on a community farm that provides food
for the hungry in the Santa Fe area, as well as
helping out at a food distribution center. All
the names of the participants will be in the
Life of the Church, so let me encourage you to
remember each of them individually in your
prayers.
Also, as you begin to think through your summer
plans, please remember these dates:
Choir Camp, June 23 – 27
This is for rising third graders through the 7th
grade. Beth Thompson can share more
information with you.
Vacation Bible School, July 14 – 18
We’re still signing kids up and also still need
volunteers.
And while the pace does change in the summer, we
still have Sunday School every Sunday. The
Summer Sunday School theme for our children is
“Rainforest Adventure.” The Bible stories,
crafts, games and themes will explore the
natural world around us and emphasize taking
care of God’s creation. We still need volunteers
to assist, so please consider volunteering for
one Sunday or two or however many you are
available.
Adults during the Sunday School hour are invited
to participated in an Armchair Mission Trip
every Sunday in H-1. Each week you’re learn
about some of the mission and outreach work that
WCPC is involved and engaged in.
Hope to see you this Sunday and throughout the
summer, except while you’re vacationing.
Your pastor,
David Jones
