Dear family and friends
of WCPC:
All golf fans in our
congregation will know who won “The Masters” on Sunday. Not
Tiger Woods, but Zach Johnson. Even if you don’t follow
golf you probably know something about Tiger Woods. Up
until Sunday he had never lost a major tournament when he
was in the lead on the last round. However Sunday he did
and an unknown golfer, Zach Johnson got to put on the green
jacket.
Johnson was in the clubhouse watching Tiger
play the last two holes. According to “Sports Illustrated”
someone in the clubhouse told Johnson, “This must be a
pretty special day for you.” “It is,” he replied, “its
Easter Sunday!”
Here was a man, about to win his first Major
Golf Tournament, one of the most prestigious of all, and his
honest response about the importance of the day was, not his
unexpected Master’s victory, but the victory of Jesus over
sin and death on Easter. As I’ve learned more about who
Zach Johnson is, the one thing that has been clear – he is a
committed disciple of Jesus Christ. He had his priorities
in order. The most important thing about last Sunday wasn’t
a golf tournament, but that the tomb is empty!
The good news of Easter isn’t just for one
day in the year! The good news is for every day. It orders
and gives meaning to every day. Every day is about new life
and forgiveness and hope and possibilities because the tomb
is empty.
This Sunday, as our youth lead us in worship
at both services, once again we have the opportunity to
celebrate this glad, good news!
Your pastor,
David Jones
