Dear
family and friends of WCPC:
I trust
you’ve accomplished most of your Christmas
shopping. I haven’t and will need to brave
a few stores tomorrow. My father always
waited until Christmas Eve to do his
shopping. He would always go to K-Mart.
Since I’m usually busy on Christmas Eve, I
do mine the day before. The girls aren’t
too much trouble to shop for. All they want
are gift cards.
As we finish up our shopping
and get ready for Christmas morning, let me
ask you to ponder this question – what are
you giving Jesus for His birthday? I mean
after all it is His birthday! While I’m
glad we exchange presents with family and
friends this time of year, we shouldn’t
forget whose birthday it is!
Jesus is hard to buy for.
What do you give someone who literally has
everything? You give Him the one thing He
doesn’t have unless you offer it. You give
Him your life. What Jesus wants for His
birthday is you and me – our love, our
devotion, our commitment. He wants us. He
wants us to commit ourselves to Him, to
passionately knowing more and more about Him
and serving Him more and more fully in the
days and years ago. He bids us to come and
follow Him and be His disciples.
So this Christmas, as we
gather for worship and for gift giving; as
we add a little extra weight with all the
feasting and celebrating; as we get together
with our family and friends, remember, He is
the reason for the Season. Remember whose
birthday it is and offer to Jesus, to the
Babe of Bethlehem, the one thing He wants
this Christmas – really the only thing –
you, me.
Let us offer ourselves to
Him. For some of us, like me, who have
known Him for many years, it’s a time of
recommitment, of offering myself once again
to my Lord and King. For others, it is a
time of new birth, new life, new commitment,
a Christmas like no other.
O come, let us adore Him!
Your pastor,
David Jones
