ANNOUNCEMENTS
We’ve got a lot planned for this weekend,
beginning with a free concert with Nathan Clark George at
North shore Park at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. This is both an
event for our church family and an opportunity to invited
unchurched friends and neighbors. I hope you will come and
bring someone along. Nathan will also participate in both
worship services on Sunday. His music appeals to a wide
cross section of people.
On Sunday our annual Fall Festival will be
taking place between noon and 2:30 p.m. There will be
games, food, and a lot of fun for everyone. Also in the
Fellowship Hall an Alternative Christmas Market will be
held, so before you purchase gifts for family and friends,
check it out. We will have socially conscious gifts of all
kinds for you to choose from. Crafts from 10,000 Villages,
coffee from Equal Exchange, gifts from Heifer Project,
Matthew’s Market, Medical Benevolence and more! Give gifts
that give twice.
A section of the parking lot will be
unavailable because of the Fall Festival. If you are able,
please consider parking further from the church than you
might normally do this Sunday, so there will be more
convenient parking for those needing it and for our guests.

Dear WCPC family and
friends:
I want to continue
encouraging each of you to spend time every day with God. It
can be at the beginning, in the middle or at the end, but its
importance can’t be emphasized enough. Discipleship is growing
in relationship to God through Jesus Christ. Relationships
can’t grow unless there is communication.
I want to offer you some suggestions this week on the sort of
questions you might consider as you examine your life and open
yourself up to God’s presence. They’re not original. They’re
adapted from Sleeping with Bread: Holding What Gives You Life
by Dennis, Shelia and Matthew Linn. They call it “The
Examen” or “The Examination of Consciousness.” It is a
prayerful review of one’ day to discern the presence of God and
can be helpful, over a period of time, in discerning God’s
direction in your life. At the end of the day, ask:
-What gave me energy today? What drained
me?
-When did I feel most alive
today? Most depleted?
-For what moment today am I most grateful? Least
grateful?
-When was I happiest
today? When was I the saddest?
- What was today’s
high point? What was today’s low point?
-
When did I receive
and give the most love today? The least love?
I think if you use these questions prayerfully, or others that
you might compose, along with reading and studying the Bible,
you will put yourself in a position where your relationship to
Christ and to others will be enhanced.
As we began ’06 I challenged WCPC to read through the Bible in
the coming year. I’ve heard from some of you that it’s been a
rewarding experience. I would welcome hearing from others who
also took the challenge. When you have the time, please either
speak with me on Sunday or during the week, or email me, and let
me know how the experience has gone.
See you on Sunday!
Your pastor,
David Jones
